The 2009 Celebrity Softball Game, also known as the Taco Bell All-Star Legends Celebrity Softball Game took place this weekend as part of the events surrounding the Home Run Derby. Check out this year’s lineup, and see photos and video here.
The All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball game started back in 2001 in Seattle, WA. It is a friendly game of softball, with slightly different rules, played between MLB legends and well-known celebrities.
This year’s Celebrity Softball Game was played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. It included a variety of stars, such as Chingy, Nelly, Andy Richter, Ashanti, Billy Bob Thornton, and Ginuwine to name a few.
On the MLB Legends side of the Celebrity Softball Game, there was the legendary outfielder Dave Winfield. Also playing was Ozzie Smith, a man who is arguably the best shortstop ever to play the game. Another legend on the field was Rich “Goose” Gossage, who earned numerous MLB records for his pitching in his 22 years in the league.
Nelly was the obvious stand-out for the celebrities, smacking in a two-run homer, and making a pretty impressive diving catch in the outfield. Another highlight was Dave Winfield calling in fans to run the bases for him so that he didn’t aggravate his hurt knee.
Here is a pretty good photo gallery of the event.
