Nadya Suleman brought home two of her octuplet infants yesterday - sons Noah, weighing 5 lbs., 13 oz, and Isaiah, weighing 5 lbs. The infants were receiving care in the Kaiser Permanante Medical Center neonatal intensive care unit.
Noah and Isaiah can both drink from a bottle, are gaining weight and are maintaining their body temperature, Kaiser said in a statement. The hospital also said that after several visits to Nadya’s home, they determined that the house was safe and “sufficient child care support and the supplies and equipment needed” to care for her first two octuplets.
Dr. Mandhir Gupta said,
“This is a happy moment for everyone – the family, physicians, nurses and entire NICU staff .It is always rewarding whenever a premature infant goes home as a healthy baby.”
Nadya gave birth on January 26 and she recently moved into a $594,000 La Habra, Calif, home.
Suleman turned the den into a nursery with four cribs because the hospital recommends two babies per crib until they outgrow them and need individual ones. On Monday, delivery trucks dropped off strollers, car seats and other goods, and a baby proofing company upgraded the house to meet child safety standards. A muralist also stopped by to put final touches on a nursery room painting.
While on the Dr. Phil show last week, Nadya said that four of her babies are ready to be sent home, but that the hospital never releases more than two babies at a time.
