Hundreds of bullfighting protesters staged a huge half-naked demonstration overnight in Madrid wearing only their underwear and covered in fake blood. We have photos of the protest and video here.

The protest took place in front of the Las Ventas building in Madrid, Spain, where bullfighting will begin this month as part of the San Isidro Festival. The half-dressed men and women laid on the ground in front of the historic building for more than an hour, and seemed to be cheered on by just as many onlookers. Opposition to bullfighting seems to be growing in Spain, where the younger generation is reportedly beginning to reject the notion that it is a time honored tradition that needs to be carried on.

The director of anti-bullfighting organization CAS said:

“We hope that in 15 years, bullfighting will have disappeared from the surface of the earth. The battle is already won, as young people don’t want it any more.”

It seems that even the Spanish press is publishing anti-bullfighting articles and photographs in their respective publications. The day before the naked protests, a picture emerged of a horse being mauled by a bull at the very site that the protesters took aim at.

Local veterinarian groups estimate that close to 15,000 bulls die every year in Spain. Regardless of the rising anti-bullfighting sentiment amongst the new generation in Spain, the events continue to draw massive crowds every year.

What do you think? Is it torture or entertainment?
