Kate Gosselin is under fire again as allegations and photos of Kate spanking Leah have hit the net, and will be published in the next edition of In Touch Weekly.
This is just is the latest tabloid headline to haunt the reality TV mom. Kate was snapped by paparazzi spanking her daughter Leah, and now the photos are being used as a promo for the next Inside Edition and Kate can find herself on the cover of the next In Touch Weekly. Now the headlines is all over the internet and causing the much scrutinized mother of eight some more drama.
According to reports, Kate was on the phone and Leah was blowing a whistle. Kate asked her to stop, but Leah blew the whistle again. Kate got up and did the deed, with paparazzi there snapping pictures of the incident.
According to In Touch magazine, which also has pictures of the incident,
“The girl was screaming and crying. Kate just pushed her away and walked off with her coffee. Her older sisters were trying to make Leah feel better.”
Kate has since released a public statement, standing firm behind her choice of discipline.
“Whether the paparazzi are there or not, I am a mother first. I love my children and when they misbehave, I discipline them as I deem appropriate for the situation.”
People seem to be divided on using spanking as a method of discipline, tell us your thoughts below. Was Kate in the wrong, or did she handle the situation ideally? Should she have at least’s considered her public image and the photographers who were snapping pictures of the incident?
Season 5 of Jon and Kate Plus 8 started off really strong with 9.8 million viewers and has rapidly declined, bringing in only 2.9 last week. Will this affect your decision to watch?

The excuse for Kate Gosselin is usually that she has eight kids, so she doesn’t have time to do things, such as explain and reason with her kids, take the gum out of a beloved security blanket/toy instead of throwing it away and telling her child to say goodbye to it because it is going in the trash, making her son sleep on the laundry room floor with all the machines running when he has the flu, not giving water to her child who asks for it. Yet she has time for French manicures, high maintenance hair, personal trainer, tanning sessions, etc.
No one is saying that a mother does not have the right to take care of herself, but if the excuse for her poor parenting habits is lack of time, then it is clear where her priorities lie. What exactly is learned by Leah from being smacked for blowing the whistle a second time? Does she learn she is being inconsiderate? No, she learns that power rules and she had better be careful not to aggravate anyone in power; she learns that violence is a viable method for dealing with children; she learns that a mother is not to loved and honored but to be feared; she learns that her feelings are secondary to the importance of a cup of coffee. No one is saying Leah was right for continuing to blow the whistle. Even 5 year olds can learn to be considerate. But they learn to respect others and be considerate when they are treated with respect and consideration. Kate is definitely not a role model for that. To those of you who hold Kate Gosselin up as a model parent, read some books and consult some experts on parenting. You are definitely on the wrong track.
For those of you who spanked and have fine, well-behaved kids, see if your kids spank. And I’m willing to be that you didn’t smack and then shove your child away, but found time to reason with and explain to them.

FOR GOD’S SAKES!!!!FANS OF KATE GOSSELIN PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!SHE IS HARSH ALL THE TIME, USED TO WATCH THE SHOW WITH MY 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, WELL AFTER THE 5TH BIRTHDAY EPISODE MY DAUGHTER WAS CRUSHED, AND GOT VERY DEPRESSED OVER SEING THOSE TWO adult IDIOTS IGNORING EACH OTHER, I MEAN KIDS WATCH THIS CRAP AND ARE AFFECTED BY IT. Zanny’s comment is well written. I hope more people see the truth about this self promoting woman who somehow marketed herself as a mommy “expert” but who time and time again gets caught revealing the selfish person underneath. Drinking water in front of her thirsty kids, smacking her daughter on the rear rather than taking away the whistle and giving a time out, sending her crying son to his bed rather than giving him a hug and a kind word of understanding because he misses his dad. These children are a gift from God and it would be nice to see Kate count her 8 blessings and not just pretend to when the cameras are rolling.

People need to wake up! Kate may not be the perfect parent, who is? I’m not a fan of hers by no means but I agree with her statement 100%. We as parents have the GOD given right to discipline our children as we see fit, if that means spanking, taking away privaliges or whatever it may be. I have a two year old who thinks its funny to run into the parking lot does not understand that this action could hurt or possible KILL him! You cannot reason with children of there age. The only thing he understands is that if he runs into the parking lot he’s gonna get a swat in the butt. Children have no respect for authority today largley in part of lack of discipline. For example, while waiting @ a stop light I noticed the car behind me, there was a 15-16 year old girl screaming @ the top of her lungs @ her mother. Using every kind of fowl language. She was throwing a fit and her mother just sat theretaking it. Do you think that there girl was ever spanked? I know I was and I would have never thought of speaking to my mother that way, I still wouldn’t. Spanking does not produce violence. I was spanked as a child, todays standards would probably consider it abuse. But I am not a violent person. I have never gotten into a fight and I’m not mad @ the world. I do NOT condone abuse but do believe that spanking is necessary when called for.

While Jon & Kate are making some “life changing decisions,” are you helping or hurting them and their children? Better yet, what are you doing for your own marriage? Refocus the chatter to praying for this family, their healing, and find resources and tools to help strengthen your marriage.

I didn’t know that spanking a child would automatically create a violent child. I always thought a number of different factors influenced that. I thought that if you spank a child out of love and DO LOVE YOUR CHILD, they will NOT grow up violent. Golly! I didn’t know it was so easy to raise children these days. I’m going to give my 2 year old a dictionary so he can grow up a genius! Whew! Glad that’s taken care of.

I dont think that its right to spank a child or hit them for no reason. But I do believe if the child is not behaving I do think they should get a spanking. No not a harsh hitting just a simple spank, to help discipline the child. I do not find kate to be a “bad mother” just because of the spank. My mother gave me spankings when I needed them, and I find myself living a good life, it teaches lessons when you get spanked. I dont think its right for everyone to turn on kate, you dont see everyone flipping out over divorces, just jon and kates. Its simply not right for everyone to be going against kate, saying shes a bad mom just because of the spanking, and yes I do believe that she loves her kids, all of them. She may go tanning, she may get her hair done, and she may get manicures but that still doesnt make her a bad mom, I think that yes she should try and spend more time with her kids but I still dont think shes a bad mother,
