Bruno made a hysterical appearance on the Today show with Matt Lauer, which ended with a hug. Read more, see photos of Bruno, and check out the Today show video here.
Sacha Cohen, in character as Bruno, was on the Today show this morning and the video has gone viral. Bruno, in his own words, came to America to become “the most famous celebrity from Austria since Hitler.”
The Today show video starts with Bruno extending his hand for Matt Lauer to kiss. And the first question he asked was “Why did you want to come to America?” Bruno’s response was that he wanted to be an “internationally respected figure…like Heidi Montag from The Hills.”
Other highlights from the Today show video include when Matt Lauer asks Bruno about traveling to speak with Israeli and Palestinian authorities about the ongoing conflict. When asked about what background information Bruno had about the region he said he prepared by watching 20 minutes of Aladdin.
With regard to suicide bombers, Bruno simply said: “if I opened up my wardrobe and all I saw was like a black burka and some sandals I’d blow myself up too.”
The interview wraps up with Matt Lauer asking Bruno if he is aware that some government officials in Austria want to boycott the movie. As you’ll see in the video, Bruno acts as though he didn’t have a clue, begins to cry, and asks Matt Lauer for a hug.

I think Bruno is hilarious. It is obviously a joke. I do not think that his performance is harmful to the gay community. The man is acting. He is funny.

I agree. Bruno is doing this all for a joke, and I think that if it’s making fun of anyone, it’s making fun of homophobic people in America. I don’t think this movie, that looks absolutely hysterical, will be harmful to the gay community.
