The Storm is a two-part TV movie on NBC that is part of their Sunday Survival series. Read more, and see photos and video here.
For the previous mini-series on NBC Sundays we had the Meteor TV movie, which many complained was a bit hokey. Now they’ve got another chance to recant with The Storm, another made for TV movie, only this time with a more unique plot. The first half of The Storm aired July 26th, and the second half will be shown August 2nd.
NBC’s The Storm features James Van Der Beek as a scientist whose research is being misused with potentially disastrous consequences. He has caught onto billionare Robert Terrell’s dastardly scheme to manipulate the weather using the “weather creation” technology that he helped pioneer. Terrell (played by Treat Williams) is attempting to use the technology as a weapon against other countries with the goal of making the conditions unlivable.
Treat Williams’ character will need the help of an up-to-no-good General played by David James Elliott. The plan they’ve hatched in The Storm is called Operation Rainbow, which is designed to make things very uncomfortable for enemies of the US—think wicked dust storms in the Middle East, or extreme drought in North Korea.
But if Van Der Beek’s character can get the attention of the public, and convince the authorities that he’s one of the good guys, he may be able to save the Earth from the calamitous side effects of Operation Rainbow. NBC’s The Storm throws in plenty of action and suspense, as the hero is chased around by Robert Terrell’s hitmen in what we’re sure will a down to the wire Earth saving thriller.

Another disaster movie! How original. They’re all disasters. The nonstop loud obnoxious music is enough of a disaster. But of course it’s used to cover inane dialog by the usual shallow characters of the disaster movie genre. And always a two parter. Wonder how many viewers waste their time with part 2. C’mon can’t you wizards in TV land come up with something more original? A wise person once called TV a vast wasteland…it’s becoming moreso.

Crap crap crap. This one makes that awful meteor movie seem good by comparison. Dialogue is lame, “suspenseful” scenes remind me of those “learn English” programmes. Won’t be watching part 2

Holy crap this was terrible. What idiot cast the vapid, dry, and mush-mouth Rich Sommer in this? He was painful to watch. Luke Perry in Intelliegence? He’s not capable of sounding intelligent.
Terrible.

Why do I feel like I’ve seen this before. Sometime in the last 2-3 years there was a near-identical movie/tv show/mini-series that The Storm has obviously ripped off. I forget what the other show was called.

are any of these critics paid for their opinion?
granted, it won’t even be nominated for an emmy but it is better than rehashed reruns.

What a total waste of time. I should have watched “Sewing with Nancy” on PBS. Trite, predictable, over played, and just plain dumb.
