Joe Halderman’s biography is substantial. He is a bigshot on the CBS News program ‘48 hours’ where has worked in varying capacities including producer for years. His accolades include an Emmy award nomination in 2008.
He is alleged to be the man behind the extortion scheme who took the $2 million check from Letterman’s attorney. He is charged with attempted grand larceny for the supposed blackmail attempt.
What possible motivation could there be? Ah, Halderman’s personal life appears to be a mess. At 51 years old, he is reportedly on the hook for child support payments of $6,000 per month after divorcing five years ago. His former wife’s name is Patty Montet. Read much more about them
The connection with Stephanie Birkitt is intriguing. She is the ‘Girl Friday’ who reportedly worked for Letterman. Reports are that she once lived with Robert Halderman, and therefore, speculation is she may have been the source for some of the juicy tidbits that he learned through a diary that may have been inadvertently left in the home. That is all inference in the media at this point so we cannot know yet for sure.
Stephanie Birkitt’s biography is less substantial but more interesting to our curious minds. She graduated from Wake Forest University in 1996. After leaving college, she worked for 48-Hours where we suspect she crossed paths with Joe Halderman. Later she worked for the David Letterman show, where she assumed the position of his Girl Friday. That sounds like the coolest job on the planet, which may have been warmed up in bed.
What did Birkitt do as a Girl Friday? That means she was his assistant available to service his every professional need as Girl Fridays are prone to do. She also got airtime on the show occasionally.
Reportedly she has nothing to do with the blackmail scheme. According to reports, “Dave’s sexual relationships happened before the marriage, but during his relationship with his [current wife who he married in 2009]. His relationship with the woman connected to the extortionist has apparently been over for a long time.”
