Was ESPN’s Steve Phillips suspended over an alleged affair with Brooke Hundley? Yes, The NY Post reports that Steve Phillips is now suspended—you won’t believe the details.
Move over David Letterman! A former NY Mets Manager turned MLB Analyst for ESPN has been involved in some wild extramarital madness. A few years back his admitted infidelity got him in hot water with the Mets, and now he may have jeopardized yet another job. This story sounds like something straight out of the show cheaters.
Here’s how things went down:
In a statement to police, Phillips maintains that he only had 2-3 trysts with his ESPN co-worker Brooke Hundley (pictured above), but that after he tried to break things off with her she went kind of wacko. Following their break-up she allegedly began making harassing phone calls to Phillips’ wife, Marni. Police reports state that she would say things like “We both can’t have him!”
That’s just the beginning. Reports allege that at one point Hundley accidentally smashed her car into a column at the Phillips’ house while speeding off in a jealous fit. That occurred after she left a letter for his wife, which gave details of her relationship with Phillips. In it, she wrote: “I’m not just some random girl he had sex with in parking lots, I’m actually a close friend who works with him on a frequent basis.”
Hundley’s actions eventually led Phillips to file a report with the police where he called her “obsessive and delusional.” The report states:
“I have extreme concerns about the health and safety of my kids and myself.”
It gets wilder. Police also learned that Hundley may have contacted Phillips’ son via Facebook while pretending to be one of his classmates. Whoa, there stalker.
These wild events have now gotten Steve Phillips suspended from ESPN for one week. His wife has understandably filed for divorce.
