A man who feels he was fired over God button now plans to sue. The man, Trevor Keezer, says Home Depot fired him over his “Under God” button.
Trevor had sported the button while working as a cashier at the store for over a year. He claims there was never any mention of it until he decided to bring his bible with him to work to read during his lunch break. That’s when he says his manager approached him and gave him an ultimatum:
“…I was told it had to come off, or I would be sent home. So they sent me home for six straight days without pay. And then today they terminated me.”
The pin, which has an American flag on it, reads “One Nation Under God Indivisible.” Keezer says wearing it is his way of showing support for the troops overseas, including his brother, Army Spc. Steven Keezer Jr.
Home Depot maintains that the problem was not caused by the religious nature of the button. Spokesman Craig Fishel said:
“The issue is not whether or not we agree with the message on the button…That’s not our place to say, which is exactly why we have a blanket policy, which is long-standing and well-communicated to our associates, that only company-provided pins and badges can be worn on our aprons.”
Fishel also mentioned that the company proudly supports the military and even provides buttons for its employees that read “United We Stand.”
But those pins didn’t satisfy Keezer, who said:
“…you can’t have country without God. Every pin they showed me had no ‘God’ on it or anything.”
This week, it was announced that Keezer plans to sue the company. His lawyer claims that the dress-code policy had never really been enforced fairly, and that other employees wore their own buttons.
What are your thoughts on the issue? Was the man fired over his God button, or his refusal to conform with the dress-code policy? Give us your thoughts in the comments section.

I feel that the man should sue not because of the button but an unfair labor pratice. If other employees are wearing their own and he has worn his for over a year and now it is an issue.
I bet some Corp. puke came in an seen the pin on the employee and told the store manager to deal with it so he did in fear of his own job. But, due to that lack of consistency in policy enforcement this is what ur faced with. Or maybe this employee wasnt part of this store clique so they found a way to vote him off the island. Im sure many of you see the same things in your company too.
Enjoy! Ur not alone.

I’m just sick of our religious beliefs being stomped upon. Freedom of speech is still a amendment. Let’s abide by it or move to another country.

I think the God issue will never go away.. People believe in what they believe in the only issue I have is respect. Can we as Americans respect eachother no matter what the belief system is if a Christian can pray to God will that same Christian condemn a Muslim for praying to Allah. Its a higher power no matter what we choose to call the Lord above. People make issues just to get attention when it takes from real issues like people who are losing jobs to overseas cheaper labor, or health care for seniors and minorities.

It appears that this Gentleman was terminated because of his religous standing and beliefs. It would be just as appalling to do away with the song “God Bless America” at Ball games. Yes, He should sue and believers alike should not shop at the “home of no god depot”

home depot said they support the troops.
The troops are fighting for the declaration of Independence, not for home depot interpretation of the declaration of independence.

The ‘under god’ phrase comes from McCarthyism era, and is wrong. I am not under god, and I am a proud American. I have lost all patience and respect for ‘believers’, and their astrological, plagiarized, make-believe world that adversely affects our society as a whole. And as for the troops? Why don’t you all look up Gen. Smedley Butler, the only man to win TWO medals of honor BEFORE he died, and hear what he had to say; by all means don’t take it from me…
