Kimberly Munley, a civilian officer, shot gunman at Fort Hood to end the deadly rampage. After being shot herself, the civilian officer then took out the gunman.

After hearing that shots had been fired at the military base, Munley and her partner responded lightning quick, and within minutes they were on the scene. Without hesitation Munley engaged the suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.

There was reportedly an exchange of gunfire between the officers and Hasan in which Munley was struck.

Despite being wounded, Munley continued to return fire, striking the gunman four times. Hasan was originally reported to have died in the melee, but it was revealed that he survived and remains hospitalized. By the time it was all over, 13 people had been killed and 20 had been wounded.

Now Munley is being hailed as a hero, who was willing to put herself in the line of fire to prevent any more innocent people from being hurt or killed.

Although Hasan has refused to speak to authorities or make any kind of statement, his cousin said the following:

“We are shocked and saddened at the terrible events at Fort Hood today. We send the families of the victims our most heartfelt sympathies. Nidal was an American citizen, he was born in Arlington, Virginia and raised here in America…Our family loves America, we are proud of our country and saddened by today’s tragedy.”
