Here is the hilarious video of Stephen Colbert calling Barack Obama the Meryl Streep of presidents. The comedy bit occurred while he was a guest on the David Letterman show.
We aren’t quite sure what the comparison means so perhaps our commenters would enlighten us. Meanwhile watch the video below from the David Letterman show in November 2009.
Meryl Streep is of course the Oscar winning actress famous for not being typecast in any particular roles. She is versatile enough to have broken through as an actress more famous for her skills than her looks. She is the antithesis of the stereotypical Hollywood floozy.
Colbert also proposes that President Obama taking a starring role in a musical called “Mama Mia!” We are not quite sure what that little zinger means either.
I am sure that Stephen Colbert is one of the most entertaining funny men on television. John Stewart has begun taking himself a little too seriously as a political commentator which takes some of the fun away from the show. Comedians should never be sanctimonious or mean-spirited. David Letterman is the same way unfortunately. Stephen Colbert never crosses that line. You just never know what he really thinks about anything.

Colbert is talking about easily Obama picked up the script. If there’s controversy, it’s because he compared the President to a female actress. If Colbert had said, “Obama is the Robert Downey Jr. of Presidents…he’d have been great in Iron Man,” there would have been no mention of this.

Letterman used to be funny. How come he and Coldert are afraid to poke ANY fun or critism at Obama? Are they afraid they will be called racist by Jimmy Carter? Letterman is just a sleazeball!

I don’t understand. I read the byline to this video that said it was hilarious. I watched it to the very end, expecting something to be very funny. It wasn’t. I have been told I have a keen sense of humor, but this just wasn’t funny. I agree with the comment that they are afraid to say something really controversial about Obama for fear of being called racist. What is the media coming to? Does Letterman have any cajones anymore or was he emasculated by his sex scandal?

Not sure what the author here is confused about. Colbert is saying he was intimidated by how easily Pres Obama picked up the script and delivered it perfectly on the first try. I thought maybe he was going to be saying Pres Obama is just an actor playing a part — no real substance. That would have been controversial. This is just paying homage to Pres Obama’s “cool” factor. Seems silly.

The quip made me feel good about my president. It says to me that Obama has the ability to do a great deal many things. He is intelligent and versatile. Everybody who is a fan of intelligence and good acting is not offended by this. I still like Letterman, too! I hate that he went through that, but that man was a golddigger and that girl was just trying to get ahead! Lots of people do it and a whole lot of people NEVER TELL!

Theyre not afraid to be racist. Stephen Colbert has proven on his own show many-a-time that he is definately not affraid to be totally politically incorrect. Sometimes people just dont have anything crude to say. They dont have to be hateful and make jabs at the president to be funny. Theyre not trying to make a “ROTFL” joke about Obamas performance with the script. He is simply admiring the presidents diversity and well rounded nature. Just because they are comedians does not mean that everything out of thier mouth has to be some headlining hilarious joke.

Does anyone even watch Colbert? And of course the President would do well he is great at reading off a telepromter. At least Bush as dumb as you Libs claim he was didn’t need a teleprompter.
Oh and how is this Obama working out for you that have no jobs?
