Rivers Cuomo, 40, lead singer of the popular band Weezer was hospitalized this weekend after a bus he and his family were riding in crashed in New York. Rivers Cuomo was taken to a hospital in Amsterdam this morning after complaining of rib pain.
The bus driver said the accident occurred at around 7:30 Sunday morning, when he lost control of the vehicle after hitting a patch of ice. The driver said the bus went into the median, hit reflective posts, crossed back over the highway and crashed into a ditch. Luckily Cuomo’s wife and children who were with him on the bus were uninjured, although one other person did have to go to the hospital, according to TMZ.
While we’re at it let me fill you in on Rivers Cuomo.
Cuomo was born on June 13, 1970 in Manhattan. His mother, Beverly, was inspired to name her son “Rivers” because he was born between the East and Hudson rivers in Manhattan. Rivers has a brother named Leaves. Sounds like his parents were straight out of the hippie era.
Cuomo is the lead singer, lead guitarist and writes most of the songs for his rock band Weezer. Rivers started out as a solo artist and released his first solo album Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo back in December 2007. The album was comprised of demos Cuomo recorded from 2002-2007. Then in 2008 Rivers released the follow up album Alone ll: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo.
Cuomo is quite the musician and plays several instruments while he mainly plays the electric and acoustic guitar he can also play the drums, bass guitar, clarinet, harmonica, keyboards trumpet and piano. Very talented, I must say.
The bus accident was a scary one for all involved. It had snowed about two inches overnight. The roads were generally wet Sunday morning, but not covered in snow.
Police said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
