Brittany Murphy’s heart attack has come as a sudden shock to the world as the 32-year-old actress passed away this week. Read the story here, and see photos and video below.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. The actress who made a name for herself by playing silly, smiley, ditzy roles is no longer with us. 2009 will surely go down as a wildly tragic year for celebrities, and the fans that adore them.
So how did Brittany Murphy die? Reports state that she actually suffered cardiac arrest, not a heart attack, and was found in the shower in a lifeless state by her mother. A call to 911 was made, paramedics arrived, but despite their efforts to revive her, she was pronounced DOA at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center at 10:04 AM PST.
Still reeling from the death of Michael Jackson, the public immediately people began to suspect drug use as a contributing factor. After all, there were rumors floating around that her career had seen better days, and that her boyfriend was a bad influence.
It seems as soon as people learned of the supposed Brittany Murphy ‘heart attack’ cocaine was brought up. Questions over Murphy’s weight loss had driven some to that conclusion a few years ago. She publicly addressed the rumors, saying:
“I have never tried [cocaine] in my entire life. I’ve never even seen it. I am also way too high-strung… Can you imagine? My God. I think my heart would explode.”
It’s true, authorities say they didn’t discover any evidence of illegal drug use, but they did find a good amount of prescription drugs present. TMZ reported that she had been taking medication for flu-like symptoms, and that there was “significant amount of vomit in the immediate area.”
So as usual at this stage in the tragedy, it’s too early to tell. The symptoms, vomiting, and prescription drugs don’t necessarily point to drug abuse. What makes me suspect that is the reaction of her boyfriend, who was apparently opposed to having an autopsy performed on her. I guess we’ll have to wait for the results this week.
