This season of American Idol is not without controversy. Yesterday, many blogs reported that the show is rigged and that the top four contestants had already been selected by both the judges and producers. Alexis Grace was one of the alleged top four Idol contestants. However, last night’s results show proved the rumor completely false.
Alexis’ lackluster performance of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” landed her a spot in the bottom 3, along with Michael Sarver and Allison Iraheta. Alexis’ dismissal is a season shocker. The judges favored her performances more than Michael’s, but somehow, he remains.
Grace, a 21-year-old single mother from Memphis, Tenn., also had the least number of viewer voters for her Tuesday performance of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”
Replied Grace, “I wish I could’ve done better. But, you know, things happen for a reason.”
This season the judges are able to “save” one contestant who is voted off by the viewers, keeping him or her in the contest for an additional week. In the end, Alexis was not “saved” last night and has left the widely popular show.
Alexis was permitted to sing an encore as Randy, Simon, Paula and Kara huddled together and discussed her fate. But Alexis hadn’t come to the theater with a whole new arrangement or interpretation, and under the gun she seemed even more histrionic.
