Amber Portwood from the hit MTV reality show âTeen Mom’ was released from an Indiana jail Tuesday after posting $5,000 bail.
As I sat with my jaw on the floor watching Amber swipe away at Gary on âTeen Mom,â the first question I turned to ask my spouse was âI wonder if anyone will call this one in?â The alleged domestic violence shown in a few of the episodes was enough to get my heart poundingâit was that raw.
Now that she has been officially charged, arrested, and bailed out, the next few months will be critical. Will she be hit with a harsh sentence? That will supposedly be determined at a hearing on February 28th. This week she apparently pleaded ânot guiltyâ to multiple felony charges stemming from her behavior while filming episodes of the last season of the show.
PEOPLE is reporting that she will in fact be reunited with her daughter while awaiting trial, while others maintain that she will not be allowed to see her just yet. Recent reports stated that child welfare officials will periodically check on her daughter (Leah) to ensure that she is in a safe, stable environment.
Her release is of course stipulated by an order of âno contactâ with Gary Shirley.
There are a few factors at play here. Amber was paid for the last season of the show, and may have some money put away. If that is the case, she could afford to have her lawyer stretch this thing out. Also, the issue of her mental health will likely come up. If you watched the last reunion episode, youâll remember that Amber seemed completely despondent, and even said âI donât care about myself.â
I was troubled by that comment, and remember thinking that I hope she would seek help. Her rage could be attributed to those issues, and may help her avoid doing any real prison time. Just a theory.
