@Joan, we don’t know that she is upset. All we have to indicate that is an unnamed source in a report from a highly unreliable gossip outlet. We can speculate that she might be upset. And in that hypothetical speculation, we could also speculate that she’s been around long enough to know that there are a lot of bigoted uninformed Americans who will condemn her for doing what they did when they were her age. That’s part of the reason that the right to privacy is important. There are all kinds of things the average person does in private or with a few close friends they don’t want documented and widely distributed. If I were to speculate more, I’d say that Miley has, like a normal teen, been drinking alcohol and doing pot for at least the last three years. Her older brother boasts online about his pot smoking and among people in their early 20s who followed his band, Metro Station, which had a top ten hit in 2006, he’s almost as well known as she is. I was introduced to drugs by my two older brothers when they got back home from serving in Vietnam. And as for what she said earlier this year on Ryan Seacrest, her mother was in the studio with her. Her mother is a well known teetotaler who opposes drugs. What would you have said when you were 17 in that situation? I’m not a particularly dishonest person, but I can give you a guarantee that when I was 17, I would have lied. In fact, I was once 17 and I always lied when adults asked me if I was doing illegal drugs. There are two things people always have a right to lie about, their sex lives and their drug lives. Even a past president of the United States lied–under oath–about his sex life, and we all know that he also lied when he said he didn’t inhale.

Number one: she could have meant every she said with Ryan. Things changed in her life dramatically and sometimes people freak out and do dumb things they never thought they would – especially when they’re being encouraged by “so called” friends. Number two: if you watched the video, you can see that she doesn’t even know what she’s doing. She’s obviously inexperienced with smoking from a bong and her “friends” tell her she needs more and how to do it. Number three: I realize that many of you WANT this girl to crash and burn, but I really hope and pray that she gets through this tough time in her life with minimal damage – and better friends that don’t video her mistakes in order to get a little fame or cash! Those are NOT friends.

Miley must be pissed but she has every reason to be pissed because her white lie that she would “not do drugs” as she stated on Ryan Seacrest back in June of 2010, has now been found out! It’s pretty rotten for a “friend” to distribute a clip of a “friend” indulging in any questionable behavior. Why cut off your feed-bag and lose a friend over a clip of them? It’s because the girl who released this is a jealous, talentless, haggard, wannabe, groupie, hanger-oner, who can’t get attention any other way. Take it from a 40-something L.A. native. I am in my 40s and I worked in the business my entire life from 16 onward, and I can tell you I have never shot footage of friends getting drunk or doing anything that would hurt them. I am a good friend and I would help my friend in private, either by making sure they never played around too much with any “experiment” or made sure they sought help if they were in trouble, instead of photographing them, encouraging them, and sending it out to the Enquierer or Star.

Listen, if you don’t think this girl has worked on her own without Daddy’s help then you are a fool. Her Daddy was a has-been with zero pull in the industry at the time of Cyrus’ explosion and if it makes you in a fly-over-state feel good to say that then mark my words and look back on your life in 20 years: You will be a chubby housewife with an unloving husband and brats that could care less about learning wrong from right while this girl will continue to be a billionaire as you wallow in your bitter, jealous, self-loathing.

Interesting analysis @Chris – however, your logic begs the question–being that what she did was perfectly legal, why would anyone be upset that the video was leaked? Also, just because something is “legal” doesn’t mean it is always “right” or even “socially acceptable”–which leads us back to my point, that it’s absurd to be upset with the person who filmed it, and not Miley for her decision making. Eh?

Sorry Joan, but this is not about differences in generations, it’s about common decency and the right to privacy. An adult’s right to pursue legal activities in the privacy of her own home, even if she’s just been an adult for five days, is at issue here. That right far outweighs any rights a professional gossip, such as yourself or TMZ, has to get the goods on a well known entertainer. And if you don’t understand that, then I guess you and I have two vastly different ideas about what America stands for. Miley did nothing wrong and she certainly did it in a much more legal way than I and all of my friends did when we were 18 in 1971. I have no idea what you were doing when you were 18, but I have a pretty good idea what most 18-year olds get up to when they are partying and it almost always involves alcohol and other forms of recreational drugs. You might not like that, but any decent American would respect the right of adults to choose it or not in the privacy of their own homes without that privacy being violated by the underbelly of the news media. As long as she was not breaking any laws, it’s none of your business. The only possible wrong I see her was done by the person who sold TMZ the video, and by TMZ itself for running that video.
