They may be famous now, but some of your favorite celebrities used to be mere teachers before they hit it big. Find out who got their start with a syllabus below!
Some of these celebrities would have made awesome teachers, and some I wouldn’t want training my dog. But let’s start with one of the more clever ones!
This now legendary author wasn’t always so well known. King got his start teaching high school English while living in a trailer! Spending his spare time writing short stories for some extra income, King must have been inspired by his experience with the harsh social reality that is High School, because it was then when he “Carrie,” his breakout novel.
I always had a feeling someone whose 7-novel series was all about a school might have got their strart teaching. Before her Harry Potter success, Rowling was biding her time teaching English in Portugal. We’ll never know how on earth her time there inspired a story about a hidden magic in the UK somewhere, but I think we’re all glad for it!
The Demon of the 70’s rock band “Kiss” wasn’t always the makeup-wearing rocker that we know him as today, but he has apparently always had a rebellious streak. In a very rock n’ roll way, he apparently used to switch out his elementary school kids’ Shakespeare books with Spider-man comics! You just know he made an awesome teacher!
Before he was Sting, and even before “The Police,” this singer was merely Mr. Sumner to his 1970’s St. Catherine’s Convent students. Yes that’s right, a convent! Sting was the only male teacher among a sea of nuns. No word if one of them was named “Roxanne.”
You’d have never guessed, but this A-Team and Rocky tough guy used to be a really wonderful poetry teacher. Really? No, of course not! Mr. T made his living as a part-time gym teacher and bouncer before being discovered by Sly Stallone and cast in Rocky III.
Speaking of which, Sly himself was a gym teacher before making it big. Struggling through school himself and even being relegated to a special needs class, the future wasn’t too bright for the bodybuilder. Like the old joke: those who cant, teach; and those who cant teach, teach gym. But it wasn’t long before he gained international fame for writing and starring in Rocky.
Yes, even our President spent time behind the lectern before becoming a politician. Mr. Obama had the most prestigious job on our list, teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago.
What do you think of these celebrities who used to be teachers? I’m honestly a little horrified that Gene Simmons was trusted young minds. Who out of today’s most famous peeps would you want teaching your kids? Let me know in the comment section!
