Chastity Bono, who was born the daughter of celebrated entertainers Sonny and Cher, is making an enormous transition in his life, changing his sex from female to male, reports TMZ. The rigorous process began soon after his 40th birthday, and will take some time before the procedure that ranges upwards of $100,000 dollars is complete.
Bono‚Äôs publicist, Howard Bragman, commented on the situation saying:
“Yes, its true — Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity.”
Congresswoman Mary Bono told TMZ.com that she “loves and supports Chaz,” and then went on to say that she “Is hopeful that his privacy and very personal decisions will be respected during this time.”

Chaz Bono was born Chastity Bono on March 4, 1969, he is a civil rights advocate, journalist, author and musician. Born to legendary entertainers Sonny and Cher, he would make appearances on his mother and fathers Comedy Hour show as a child. Also as a youngster he took a liking to the way his father dressed rather that his mother, later recognizing himself as a trans man.
In his book ‚ÄúFamily Outing,‚ÄĚ Chaz revealed that his mother was at first uncomfortable with his lifestyle saying that she “went ballistic for a few days”, before accepting it. He was outed by Star magazine as a Lesbian in 1990, but was not prepared for the world to know. In 1995, he worked up the courage and addressed the issue himself in an interview with ‚ÄúThe Advocate.‚ÄĚ
Chaz Bono, over the course of his career, has worked for ‚ÄúThe Advocate,‚ÄĚ which is a national gay and lesbian magazine, he has been a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, he served as the Entertainment Media Director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and has also penned two books titled ‚ÄúFamily Outing: A Guide to the Coming Out Process for Gays, Lesbians, and Their Families,‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúThe End of Innocence‚ÄĚ.
