On any typical Friday night in the early 1990’s, you could find a sweet, young girl named ‘Stephanie Tanner’ gracing television screens all over the country in the family show, “Full House”.
We knew of Candice Cameron, who played older sister ‘DJ Tanner’ on “Full House” and her happy marriage. We even knew what happened to the a cute set of twins named, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, that played one character named ‘Michelle Tanner’ on the show “Full House”. Yet somehow, updates on the middle child didn’t occur as often for Jodie.
Now, over ten years later, Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie, talks about her struggle to fit in and shed her girl-next-door image of the character she played for eight years.
In her new book, Unsweetined, she discusses many a tale of a child star that has to now fit into real life. The call of drugs and alcohol are sometimes different to ignore.
Jodie spend many years during her teens and early twenties doing drugs and drinking. Drugs like crystal meth and cocaine were her drugs of choice.
In the book, she discusses how it was easy for her to do drugs and pretend to be sober. She was used to portraying different
people, so being high and pretending to be sober was not a difficult task to mask.
She has fallen off the wagon more than once, but she hopes this time she can remain clean and sober.
When asked about her false claim of sobriety when she visited Good Morning America in 2008, Jodie says:
“I was selfish, self-serving, insecure, angry and fearful person living a double life. I covered up my problems by pretending to be happy and saying that everything was fine.”
Jodie announced today that she is coming up on her anniversary of sobriety. It will be one year that she has been free from the use of of drugs or alcohol on December 8, 2009.
