A wild car chase in Dallas, Texas today ended when the suspect was t-boned after running a red light. Read more about the incident from June 29, 2009, and check out the video here.
This chase seemed to dominate network news, with live helicopter pictures from a News chopper that even momentarily bumped coverage of you know who off of the screen.
Nothing gets Americans glued to the TV screen like a good car chase, and for some reason the Dallas / Ft. Worth area seems to have about one a month. This one was especially spectacular, and ended like so many do—with a horrific crash.
It doesn’t matter what is being reported about, the networks will cut straight to a live feed of a runaway car and begin narrating it like a horse race. The one today included spike strips, jumping off ramps, and running down signs.
It all started today at 635 and Interstate 30 in Mesquite, and made its way through a bunch of different stretches of Interstate in the area. The driver, Shane Michel, seemed particularly desperate, even making his way off-road for a portion of the melee, and very nearly struck several cars in the process.
The end came Michel ran a red light and was t-boned by a man in a pickup truck named Lance Anderson, who did not sustain any serious injuries. I’m sure video and pictures will flood local TV news broadcasts in Dallas and across the country tonight.
It is difficult to find photos, but check out the video below.

Good for him (Shane Michael)! I hope he is incapacitated for the rest of his life.

I wish Shane Michel a long a painful recovery. May his nurses substitute sugar water for his painkillers.

What’s the story on Shane Michel? I don’t see any references to his possible criminal record or anything else. Can we find out soon?

Hope Shane Michael had liability insurance. As always, car chases are fun to watch. One question….how did you find that there was a pickup truck named Lance Anderson involved in the wreck?

I can not believe that most of the people that have replyed to this crash are asking for terrible things to happen to Shane Micheal. Yes he is in the wrong and put many people in danger but what gives us the right to judge him and say such terrible things to happen to this man, beleive me wont you think that he has enough to worry about. And for people who do not know the whole story to say things like they are saying online here. When did we become such ruthless people. May God not judge you the way you have judged him.

Driver of pickup truck (my father) is fine; he’s pretty sore and has a large welp on his left knee. Truck is totaled…
Car Chase Driver is in fair condition last I heard; he came out after the accident unconscious with face and hip fractures and a severed aorta. Resulting in emergency surgery…
