Dancing With the Stars’ Patrick Swayze tribute was literally uplifting! The stars sat out for this routine, which paid homage to Patrick Swayze’s Dirty Dancing moves.
The night wrapped up an exciting premiere week for the new season of DWTS. It was a week that included some surprisingly talented celebrities, and then some…well, not so talented celebrities.
It would also mark the first eliminations of the season. Not too many fans were surprised to see Macy Gray sent packing. Her goofy waltz with partner Jonathan Roberts wasn’t quite up to snuff. The other celeb that won’t be returning next week is Ashley Hamilton, who danced like he had an ironing board stapled to his back.
But before that business was handled, the audience was treated to a touching tribute to the late actor, Patrick Swayze, who executive producer Conrad Green called “…one of the few people to integrate dance with being an A-list actor.”
It’s true that Swayze’s style was a throw back to what it used to mean to be a star—the triple threat: singing, dancing, and acting. A feat not many of our celeb heroes seem capable of these days.
He was even involved with the first season of DWTS, where he lent a hand to his friend John O’Hurley, who was one of the first contestants. Conrad Green reflected back to those days, saying:
“We have some very fond memories of (Swayze) coming to help us out when we were a tiny little show way back when.”
So the tribute had to be good, and the pros delivered, working it out to “She’s Like The Wind,” “Unchained Melody,” and of course, “Time Of My Life.” The biggest moment came when Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke pulled off the famous lift move from the 1987 film.
Take a look at some photos, and video of the tribute below, which includes the lift.
