Dancing With the Stars’ Patrick Swayze tribute was literally uplifting! The stars sat out for this routine, which paid homage to Patrick Swayze’s Dirty Dancing moves.

Patrick Swayze s Star

The night wrapped up an exciting premiere week for the new season of DWTS. It was a week that included some surprisingly talented celebrities, and then some…well, not so talented celebrities.

It would also mark the first eliminations of the season. Not too many fans were surprised to see Macy Gray sent packing. Her goofy waltz with partner Jonathan Roberts wasn’t quite up to snuff. The other celeb that won’t be returning next week is Ashley Hamilton, who danced like he had an ironing board stapled to his back.

But before that business was handled, the audience was treated to a touching tribute to the late actor, Patrick Swayze, who executive producer Conrad Green called “…one of the few people to integrate dance with being an A-list actor.”

It’s true that Swayze’s style was a throw back to what it used to mean to be a star—the triple threat: singing, dancing, and acting. A feat not many of our celeb heroes seem capable of these days.

He was even involved with the first season of DWTS, where he lent a hand to his friend John O’Hurley, who was one of the first contestants. Conrad Green reflected back to those days, saying:

“We have some very fond memories of (Swayze) coming to help us out when we were a tiny little show way back when.”

So the tribute had to be good, and the pros delivered, working it out to “She’s Like The Wind,” “Unchained Melody,” and of course, “Time Of My Life.” The biggest moment came when Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke pulled off the famous lift move from the 1987 film.

Take a look at some photos, and video of the tribute below, which includes the lift.

Having been at the final scene in Dirty Dancings as an extra at Patrick’s request. This was a nioe attempt as a remembrance but it pales in comparison to the real thing. Patrick was one of a very special kind.
I would have rather had clips of him performing She’s Like the Wind or ask a close friend who has a very similar vocal range such as Rex Smith to perform Patrick’s music for him.
I was a valiant effort but more thought could have gone into this to make it a more fitting tribute to a once in a life time performer such as Patrick was.
Ditto to you Swayze Dog Love you always

It did pale in comparison, but how could it help it? Tony did a good job but he lacked something…Patrick was graceful…a very fluid dancer. He is definitely going to be missed and I LOVE that the show honored him thusly.

This was one of the most moving tributes to a truly talented man. If this didn’t bring a tear to your eye, nothing will! I’m sure Patrick was watching from the heavens and dancing with them, as he smiled from up above. I am sure the emotion of the moment brought both comfort and tears to his loving wife. Now she can look back on this as well and know that she was truly blessed to have such passion and love in her life. Thank you for sharing our life with you Patrick, rest in peace.

It was not an attempt to duplicate his grace, style and heart. They could have danced all night and not achieved that. But, you could see the love and care they brought to the dances, the love they had for the man that inspired them, and how emotional everyone was when it was over. I will miss you Patrick.
