Frances Reid 1

Frances Reid played matriarch Alice Horton on the NBC hit soap opera Days of Our Lives for over 40 years. Frances was the only cast member who had been with the show since day one. Days premiered in 1965 which means Reid was 55 years old when she took on the role, wow. Frances has not appeared on Days since 2007 due to health reasons, however her character Alice Horton is always referred to on the show. Frances earned two Daytime Emmy nominations and was a Lifetime Achievement award recipient in 2004.

I have been a Days fan since I was young, grew up watching it with my mom, and I can say that Alice Horton was the heart and soul of the show. She kept everyone in line and kept those family values instilled in all. The show has not been the same since she left. Frances Reid was an amazing actress and she will be missed by not only her family and friends but many many fans too.

Although she was best known for her role as Alice Horton on DOOL, Reid was also a very well known stage actress in the 1930′s and 1940′s appearing in Broadway shows such as Hamlet, Richard III, Twelfth Night and Cyrano de Bergerac. Frances also appeared on a few primetime shows like Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Mr. Novak and Dr. Kildare. Days was not the only soap that Reid appeared on, she also had roles on As The World Turns and The Edge of Night.

Whether you knew her from her days on Broadway, or as Alice Horton on DOOL, one thing is certain, she was an amazing woman, actress and an inspiration to many.

Days of Our Lives’ Frances Reid died on Wednesday, the beloved actress will be missed but will always be remembered for the true star she was. Enjoy the blast from the past, a video I have below. RIP Frances!
