This will be the third marriage for Mickey Rourke. He proposed to Elena last week and plans to have a traditional Russian wedding ceremony. They haven’t made any solid plans but close friends report that Mickey is smitten with Elana and likewise.
Mickey Rourke was MIA for quite sometime then resurfaced after his amazing role in The Wrestler. During his acting vacay Mickey a former boxer returned to boxing. Rourke decided that he “…had to go back to boxing” because he felt that he “… was self-destructing … (and) had no respect for myself being an actor.”
Mickey got pretty beat up in the ring, his injuries included a broken nose, toe, ribs, a split tongue, and a compressed cheekbone. Having his head pounded so many times gave him short term memory loss. In fact, Mickey’s face was such a beaten mess that he had to undergo several intensive surgeries leaving him almost unrecognizable. In 2009, the actor told The Daily Mail that he had gone to “the wrong guy” for his surgery and that his plastic surgeon made even more of a mess out of his face.
Boxing promoters said that Rourke was too old to go toe to toe with top-level fighters. Rourke himself said: “(I) just wanted to give it a shot, test myself that way physically, while I still had time.” In 1995, Rourke retired from boxing and returned to acting.
The tough guy does have a soft spot. For dogs. Rourke owned five chihuahuas: Loki, Jaws, Ruby Baby, La Negra and Bella Loca. In February his bestest little friend Loki died. Rourke was devastated.
Hopefully this relationship will not leave Mickey heart broken. He’s had a rough and tumble life and now maybe it’s time for him to settle down.
