Did His Statements Cause Glenn Beck To Lose Advertisers?

After he made some pointed comments about the president, several Glenn Beck advertisers have pulled out, with the number now at five. Read more and see photos and video here.

Last week, Glenn Beck called Barack Obama a “racist” with “deep-seated hatred for white people.” Shortly after, an organization with ties to the administration heavily lobbied the advertisers to pull out of the program, and so far five have done so.

Color Of Change, an organization that one conservative website calls a “racially charged activist group” has called on several of Glenn Beck’s advertisers to no longer run ads during his show.

The Huffington Post seems to be claiming partial credit for starting the movement against Beck. Here’s part of what they posted on their website:

“…we asked Color Of Change members to call on Beck’s advertisers to pull their funding from his show. More than 50,000 people have already joined the call, and today we have great news to report — advertisers are starting to listen…“

Some have pointed to a conflict of interest between the administration and the group, claiming that they are trying to silence a chief critic of the president.

That claim stems from the fact that the founder of Color Of Change is Van Jones, special advisor of Green Jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

Others have applauded the move, saying that the kind of “hateful” language Glenn Beck used on the program should be alarming to the advertisers who help fund it.

The companies that have pulled ads so far are as follows: SC Johnson, Progressive Insurance, Geico, Procter & Gamble and Nexus Lexis (lawyers.com). Ouch!

What do you think, should the companies have pulled support of Glenn Beck’s show? Or do you think he should have the right to say what he likes (barring threats) about the president?

Let us hear your opinion in the comments section below.

Glenn Beck is awesome. He speaks the truth. The companies that pulled out; SC Johnson, Progressive Insurance, Geico, Procter & Gamble and Nexus Lexis (lawyers.com), well, they just went on MY boycott list. I won’t buy from any of them and neither should any Glenn Beck supporter. There are a lot more of us (supporters of Glenn Beck) than there are Liberal Obamanation supporters.

I have already notified these companies that I will be boycotting their products. Isn’t this just typical of the Bully politics this administration uses. OMG I can’t believe how malicious these people are. Why is no one talking about the selection of this man as a czar? And what about czars period? Just a way to circumvent congress and grab a little more power. I wondered how long Obama was going to allow GB to speak his mind. I wonder how long any of us will be able to speak our minds…..Or have we lost that right already?

I will never buy anything from Geico! La Raza and NAACP you have shown me the light!!! Boycott, boycott, boycott. All white people need to be shown in a better light! Did you hear me Hollywood? We need to be in charge again and not be the dummies on TV and film! I do not care if my sponsors lose money. Let the truth be told. We are worthy! WE can be in charge again on Dexter. Yes we can jump too! Can we be in token Cameo spots as well? I mean in a meaningful role?

I received the following email in response to my plan to boycott this sponsor. Funny how it seems this has been twisted by some media outlets.

    Alan,

Thank you for sharing your concerns as there is some potentially misleading information on the web about this topic.

SC Johnson has not pulled or cancelled advertising for the Glenn Beck show, as we never directed our advertising to this particular program. In general, our goal is to provide good, informative ads and we select those programs and/or networks that make the most sense given our consumer base.

I’ve been listening to Glenn for years now, and he’s on the right track. Boycott these sponsors. Show them we are just as tired of their bullshit as we are with our representatives.

Glenn Beck speaks the truth and the truth is sometimes difficult to accept. The WH administration is pushing very hard for programs that will result in massive redistributions of wealth (socialism) and they will not be easily deterred from their objective. Those who would rather be supported than work and accept personal responsibility stand to benefit the most from these moves (in the short term). Long term, we all lose. Threatening Glenn Beck’s freedom of speech is just another WH attempt to cover up the truth.
Sadly, the companies who buckle to these threats are taking us one step closer to losing one of our most cherished freedoms. We can peacefully refuse to buy their products and they will slowly realize the error of their ways. None of them really appeal to liberal consumers, so there won’t be any gained revenue from them.

I grew up in the punk rock, don’t-trust-government scene, and it is really funny to me to see Conservatives trying to rebel. Now, I give a lot of credit to this site; this blogger here really does give both sides a voice, and honestly, the comments opinionated here are based in legitimate concerns. However, what I see is Beck taking a handful of real concerns, mixing it with some hearsay, and then throwing in some illogical fears. Beck tries to separate America at a time when we should really be talking to one another, not throwing tabloid, witch hunt accusations at one another. Beck is an extremist, and in America, he has a right to that voice. But don’t be upset when others try to voice against it. I have the right to say whatever I want; that doesn’t mean others don’t have the right to fight back.

If you read any of Obama’s books you will see that what Glenn is saying is what Obama said himself. In Dreams of My Father he writes “I ceased to advertise my mothers race at the age of 12-13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites” or “I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race (white)” or ” There was something about him that made my wary, a little to sure of himself, maybe. And white.”
These are Obamas words not Glenn Becks. What is wrong with corporate america, I fear they are in bed with the government, we need to boycott those involved.

Thank God the sponsers are dropping this out of his mind wacko! Bush collasped this country by lies and lining the pockets of his oil buddies, dont blame Obama for the mess Bush created, shame on that idiot for the collaspe of the strongest nation in the world, Clinton fixed it after idiot Bush no 1, and the second Bush f-it up even more than his father, for this poor pathetic paranoid Glenn Beck trying to predict what (as he puts it ) Obama trying to right the wrongs done to innocent citizens of color…is hardly his purpose, if he was the president for 50 yrs couldnt possibly make the wrongs right sadly… to call a man raised soley by his white family a racist is as insane as Glenn Beck…you are just running scared for your true immoral hatred for black america Glenn Beck, you seeth with bigotry, to see you unraveling on camera in front of our eyes is classic, your nuts…it looks like your about to mounty up with your posse to take america back..too late..too bad! the world as you old bigots know it is history praise the lord!

    Glenda Knower Says:

Obama doesn’t hide the fact that he is a racist. If you question anything this Administration does you are labeled a racist. It is supposed to make you run scared and be quiet. The Liberal Hypocrites don’t want any of the truth about Obama to come out. People just don’t want to see it. The have been successful so far in covering up what this man actually is, but people are slowly waking up. I just hope its not too late.
Beck is an honest upstanding man, how dare he speak the truth.

  15. 15
    Rumello Says:

Glenda Knower, Glen Beck went off the deep end when he called Obama a “racist”. No one said anything about him questioning the administration. I even question the administration, but I’m not losing my marbles. Beck is…and anyone who supports Mr. Beck and this type of attitude is just as bad. And by the way Harvey, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are products of the civil rights movement. They’ve seen racism first hand. And for you to make that comment shows you are not sensitive as well. I hope one day we all can look past color and look at the people. But we have to stand up for the poor and all people of color before we can stand upright for America!

    Dan Says:

It’s a pretty sad day in America when these advertisers side with ColorofChange.org and Van Jones who is a self proclaimed Communist, rather than Glenn Beck who is trying to get the truth out. Let these cowardly advertisers go down in flames, and then run to administration for a bailout.

many of you are right, Glenn Beck has the right to free speech. and maybe you are also right that white people should stand together. unfortunately, i don’t agree that people of any color should stand up to support racism, lies, and pure propaganda. that’s why i boycotted Glenn Beck’s advertisers (before Huffington or Color of Change’s request). i am personally tired of the ranting about nonsense that is untrue and really just incites people for no reason.
if Obama starts another war unwarranted, i say, let’s be loud about how unfair and unamerican it is. white people, black people, let’s all stand up…together. i believe it is unfair and unamerican not to provide healthcare for all americans.
ever see the work doctors without borders is doing? they go to third world countries and the US to provide free healthcare to people who can’t afford it…some of these people have health insurance but can’t afford the copays or the premiums…is it really doctors without borders’ responsibility to provide healthcare for americans? why don’t these people deserve healthcare? because they weren’t born in a third world country? now, that’s unamerican

If you’d like a preview of federally run health care look at the indian reservations. They are all given federally funded health care the same health care Obama wants all of us to have. The saying on the reservations is “don’t get sick or hurt after June”, that’s because there is no more money until next year. They are putting up with rationed care, poor quality care or no care at all. Is this what we want? And if its so great why arent Congress, the House, the Senate & The Anointed One getting the same plan? Hmmmm doesnt sound good to me.
