Gordon Ramsay must have someone upstairs who likes him, because the potty-mouthed British chef was attacked while filming a segment for “Big Fish Fight” in Costa Rica! For more information on this story keep on reading after the jump!
While filming a show on illegal shark fishing in Costa Rica, chef Gordon Ramsay found himself in some hot water with the local fishing gangs!
Gordon Ramsay’s episode, called “Gordon’s Shark Bait”, investigated the illegal shark fishing industry that is running rampant in Costa Rica. These fishermen haul in thousands of sharks for their fins, which is used to make shark fin soup. They are also often heavily involved in drug smuggling and other illegal activities.
“It is a multibillion dollar industry, completely unregulated. We traced some of the biggest culprits to Costa Rica. The day before we got there, a Taiwanese crew landed a haul of hammerhead sharks – police searched the boat and found bails of cocaine. These gangs operate from places that are like forts, with barbed-wire perimeters and gun towers,” Ramsay said.
During his investigation, chef Ramsay had run-in after run-in with these dangerous gangs, narrowly escaping with his life. At one point, the obscenity-tossing chef was doused in petrol after being chased by people, and was later held at gunpoint after discovering an illegal haul of fins. He was held until local authorities could come and help him out! Their advice: leave the country or risk getting shot! Read more about Gordon’s experience HERE.
I can only assume that Gordon Ramsay wasn’t shouting at these guys the way he does the participants on his shows, because the certainly don’t seem like the type to put up with someone like him snooping in their (illegal) business!
