Super Bowl commercials are always hyped up, and people make sure they are present for those highly anticipated ads. This time, DreamWorks latest animation film, Monsters vs. Aliens 3D commercial is all the rage and people are so excited, there is even a commercial about the commercial. Now that is something.
For the first time, the 2009 Super Bowl commercial break will be featured in 3D. And this isn’t just any old 3d – the broadcast is using InTru 3D technology, which supposedly beats the crap out of the red/blue 3D glasses we are used to using for home 3D viewing. You can get your 3D glasses at PepsiCo’s SoBe Lifewater displays in stores around the country, or you can call 1-800-646-2904. A 3D SoBe commercial will also air with the trailer and will be ran in the second quarter of the game.
The price tag for a 30-second ad slot during the 2009 Super Bowl is about $3 million, so it’s no wonder they are going for the gold here. It is definitely worth picking up those glasses. A brief synopsis on the Monsters vs Aliens movie – the film stars Hollywood’s highest paid actress, Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Stephen Colbert, and Kiefer Sutherland to name a few. Reese lends her voice to the role of Susan Murphy, a girl who is hit by a meteor on her wedding day, which mysteriously causes her to grow to a staggering height of 49-feet-11-inches. She is taken by the military and renamed Ginormica. They place her with a group of Monsters, but their imprisonment is cut short when a peculiar alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. The President is persuaded to enlist the Monsters to fight the Alien Robot and save the world from destruction.
The 2009 Super Bowl airs on NBC Sunday, February 1, 2009.
