I don’t understand how the city can be sued if they were never called in to control or remove the animal, and as far as 50 million, boy I wish Ms Nash could get it, but how? I doubt the owner has it and I doubt her insurance would even have anything to cover a situation like this.I hope she does jail time though. These animals are never ever safe once they reach maturity, there is a very good interview with Jeff Corwin that goes into that. And most areas don’t even have a real animal control officer, let alone any kind of statutes to cover this- face it, how many times are you called upon to regulate a martini drinking chimp who is forced to live and act like a human? Pure criminal stupidity and abuse on the part of the owner.

Le Dude checking in once again … nice to hear reasonable people like In Summary are involved in this discussion. As I stated earlier, I speak for all chimps (namely due to the fact that I am a chimp). I live alone, pay my bills on time, hold down a job, a mortgage. I’m putting two kids through school … yeah, I drink a little from time to time, but chimps feel stress too.

Anyway, I feel that chimps and other primates (except for Gibbons – ewwww!) should not be owned. Unless there are kegs in the house.

I really have to ask why people watch Oprah for, when she promotes stories like this. Maybe Oprah should have the owner (you know – equal time) of the chimp on to ask her about the bubble baths and the bed time cuddling that she (the owner) did with the chimp. Don’t believe me? Then read the initial news clippings about this story. These people are more than demented. And why do we want this crap on TV – Daytime yet! – Bad enough it made the news!
