For those of you that were outraged the first time around – you may actually be able to find the grace to forgive her. Yes, Roseanne Barr is back on television, and yes, she will be attempting the National Anthem again, but word has it that she did a MUCH better job this time.
Personally, I think that television is in dire straights at this particular moment. A bunch of self-involved, talentless kids dominate each prime time hour. Pointless reality shows fill up our DVRs and do nothing but relentlessly tease us for the next week’s episode.
Which is exactly why we need Roseanne more than ever. Her brand of comedy was relatable and real, and she wasn’t some botox infused, puffy lipped shop-a-holic, either. Just plain old “Rosie,” as Dan would call her.
So when I heard she was taking a jaunt into reality television I was little disappointed at first. I mean, why not take another stab at a sitcom?
The good news is that, so far, the clips that I’ve seen are pretty funny – and this Wednesday’s show will be no exception.
She will once again sing the National Anthem, which is pretty daring at a time like this. The first time around proved to be one of her most controversial moments, but the real result was that it brought out the real d-bags who can’t take a joke.
I suspect this will do the same, but to a lesser degree. Sure, she actually tries to sing this time around, but she is no professional. Also, the story goes that she was actually invited as a guest to do the deed at a softball game, so you can’t get too uptight about it.
Those folks most likely knew what they were getting into.
