Calling all Soap Opera Fans, it is time to get busy and Save Our Soaps. The recent cancellation of Guiding Light, All My Children’s move to Los Angeles, and Eric Braeden leaving The Young and The Restless all point to one thing, daytime soap operas are in serious trouble.
Not that this is news to anyone. I mean let’s face it, the days of Luke and Laura soap royalty are gone. The television industry has been changing for the past few years and as it changes it seems our beloved Soaps are being pushed aside for Talk Shows and Game shows. But if you are a die hard Soap Opera fan like me you know nothing can replace your shows. I mean what if there was no more Jack/Carly on As The World Turns or Erica Cane on All My Children, wouldn’t you feel a sense of loss? I know it may sound crazy but I know many of you know what I am talking about.
That being said it is time to take action before this amazing industry is a thing of the past. Write letters to the networks, to the producers of your favorite show, anything that will get the attention of the powers that be. Even something as simple as making sure you watch your show everyday or picking up a new show can help. I know first hand that what keeps a show on the air is ratings, even if it is VCR or DVR ratings. Personally I watch Days of Ours Lives, As The World Turns, and General Hospitalfaithfully, well faithfully DVR’d that is. My point is that whatever you can do it will help. Now I know there are some true Soap Opera fans out there, so get with me and let’s Save Our Soaps before it is too late.
