America’s Got Talent is hosted this season by Nick Cannon (photo above). The judges are Piers Morgan, David Hasselhoff, and Sharon Osbourne (pictures below).
How were the talent acts selected? AGT producers held auditions in a number of cities across the country: New York, Chicago, and Seattle, Boston, Miami, Houston, and Los Angeles, thus casting a wide net. Producers also held an open call on the Today show to find a”wild-card” contestant. Talent hopefuls also had the option of auditioning via the Internet.
Finally, in Las Vegas, the field of AGT hopefuls will be narrowed down to the America’s Got Talent Top 40.
This year, viewers, producers and judges alike can’t help but wonder if America’s Got Talent might produce a worldwide sensation like Britain’s Got Talent Susan Boyle, the previously unknown singer from Blackburn, West Lothian Scotland?
In a recent interview, Piers Morgan talked about two acts in particular who have made a strong impact on audiences and judges. The first talent act he mentioned is a chicken hunter.
“We were all laughing at him. He was laughing, baseball cap the wrong way around, and he had on a checked farmer shirt. ‘What are you going to do?’ ‘I’m going to sing for you a bit of Garth Brooks.’
“Then, he sits down, gets a guitar, starts to sing Garth Brooks, and within about half a minute, the audience was starting to cry. He had the most powerful, emotional voice I’ve seen on ‘America’s Got Talent’ in a long time. Amazing. So he has the potential to be a Susan Boyle.”
The other act Piers Morgan mentioned are three children who had been singing every day to their mother who, after an accident, was left her paralyzed and comatose and in the hospital. They have been featured in promo commercials for the program singing ‘God Bless America’ in harmony.
“Everybody was incredibly moved by them,” he says, “and then the mother came out in a wheelchair. It was unbelievable. She began to speak about how proud she was of her kids. By then, Sharon was a weeping mess, and the audience were a weeping mess.”
Last year’s winner, the AGT 2008 winner was an insurance salesman named Neal Boyd who aspired to be an opera singer, thus underscores the truth of this. Who knows whose story this year may be a dream come true worthy of a movie?!
